Adrak Wali Chai, also known as Ginger Tea is a beloved and widely consumed beverage throughout India. While it is enjoyed across different regions and households, it holds particular significance and prevalence in North India, where it is a cornerstone of the vibrant Indian tea culture. it’s etymology
The word adrak means “ginger” in Hindi, Urdu, and several other South Asian languages. Wali translates to “with,” so Adrak Wali Chai literally means “tea with ginger”. In many regions, it’s simply called adrak chai, with its aroma often evoking feelings of warmth and homely comfort.

1/2 cup (125ml)

1 cup (250ml)

1/2 inch piece

Black Tea
1 tbsp (tablespoon)

Sugar
2 tbsp (tablespoon or as per taste)
Step-By-Step Guide
Step 1

In a medium saucepan, bring 1 cup water to boil.
Step 2

Crush or grate the fresh ginger piece, and add it to the boiling water.
Step 3

Let the ginger-infused water boil for 2-3 minutes to release its flavor.
Step 4

Then add 1 tbsp black tea leaves, and continue boiling for another 2 minutes.
Step 5

After that pour in the milk, and bring the entire mixture to a gentle simmer.
Step 6

Allow your tea / chai to simmer for 3 - 4 minutes on medium heat, stirring occasionally.
Step 7

Add 2 tbsp of sugar (or as per your taste) and stir until completely dissolved.
Step 8

Then strain the tea / chai into your cup or mug and enjoy your warming Adrak Wali Chai hot!
Notes
- sweetener :
- You can use honey as an alternative to sugar.
- ginger preparation :
- Wash and peel the ginger, then crush or grate it to release its oils and allow the flavor to infuse better.
- milk alternatives :
- You can use Semi-Skimmed, Skimmed milk or plant-based options (Oats, Soy, Almond or Cashew milk).
