Elaichi Chai, also known as Cardamom Tea, is one of the most beloved variations of Indian chai. it’s etymology
The word Elaichi comes from the Sanskrit word Ela, referring to cardamom one of the world’s oldest and most prized spices. In Hindi it is called Elaichi, in Tamil Elakkai, in Malayalam Elakka, and in Kannada Yelakki. Botanically, it is known as Elettaria cardamomum, often called the “Queen of Spices” for its delicate yet powerful aroma and flavor.

Step-By-Step Guide
Step 1

In a saucepan, bring 1 cup of water to a boil.
Step 2

Add the lightly crushed cardamom pods to the boiling water.
Step 3

Let them simmer for 2-3 minutes to release their aroma.
Step 4

Add black tea leaves and brew for another 2 minutes.
Step 5

Pour in the milk and bring the mixture to a gentle boil.
Step 6

Lower the heat and let it simmer for 2-3 minutes for a richer flavor.
Step 7

Add sugar according to your taste and stir well.
Step 8

Strain into a cup and enjoy the aromatic, soul-warming Elaichi Chai!

- You can use jaggery or stevia instead of sugar.

- Lightly crush cardamom pods just enough to crack them open - don't powder them completely.
